What's going on with these front brakes?

Installed new rotors on the 850 recently. Everything is working fine, but I'm noticing the pads are not sweeping the entire rotor surface. I re-used my old Akebono pads because they were in excellent shape despite the rotors being too rusty for my taste. Looking at the old rotors they were doing the same thing. Is this normal or are these pads slightly under-sized?

Probably have a slight chamfer on the top edge of the brake pad so it isnt flat on the rotor yet. If the car brakes well, I would monitor it. Ill guess in about 2000 miles of driving that annulus will get nice and shiny like the rest of the rotor.

Well, the pads have about 25k miles on them but they looked like they were still practically brand new, so I re-used them despite having new pads sitting in the box ready to install. I do recall they had a bit of a chamfer on them.

Just double checked all my parts numbers, including the pads from my records and everything looks correct.

There is no need to install new pads just because of new rotors both old pads can wear unevenly. Sometimes (cheap) old rotors will get 'shine' near the edge which prevents it from wearing down. The edge then stays thicker which means at that place the pads will get thinner. Looks like your pad will need some time to wear until it gets uniform in thickness and starts grabbing with all it's surface.

More than the 25k these pads already have on them??

I guess these Akebono pads are really worth the money. No dust and they appear to last forever!
