Sorry but I'm not getting it - where is there spark and where is there not spark?

If spark is getting through the rotor but not through the wires, then clearly the wires are bad. Every one of them, which seems unlikely. But how would you even see this, did you pull each wire at the cap, and detect spark where the wire plugs in to the cap?

Spark is not coming through the button to the marks to go to the plug wires but it is coming through the cap

Gets through the cap to the rotor, but doesn't get through the rotor? That would have to be a bad rotor, there is no other possibility. Is everything OK inside the cap, like the dust cap is positioned properly? Could it be you have the wrong parts?

The rotor has electronics inside it, that can go bad. If you have tried a couple rotors then maybe they are getting cooked? Strange.

Would the coil be putting to much power to the button

Yes that's what I mean. But I don't see how unless it's the wrong coil, even then it seems unlikely, they just put out 12V.

Oh, are you sure the plug wires are on in the correct order? Some of the sources show the wrong order.

This is correct: http://volvospeed.com/volvo_repairs_how ... plugs.html

EDIT: ehhh that wouldn't mean no spark, just spark at the wrong time so not starting.
