Raditor fan not turning on
Raditor fan not turning on
2005 Volvo s40 So my radiator fan used to shut on and off & now it doesn't come on at all .. I turn the a/c on to see if they kick on but nothing all your hear is like click nose like if it is trying to turn on once & then nothing . Also car doesn't overheat if car is moving , only over heats if I'm at a stop for more than 5-10 mins. & also my check engine light is on I got it checked to see what it was with the computer and it had a code for the o2 sensor ..but I had it checked with the Computer before the fan completely stopped working. I haven't had it checked since . Could it be that I need a new radiator fan?

I have moved this to the correct section of the forum...from 2004.5 S40's took on a new design and these cars are different than previous S40's. I hope you get better exposure and solve your problem!

Btw, I can think of 2 scenarios for the fan not coming on- one is a bad coolant temp sensor...the other is a bad relay which it plugs into under the fan shroud. 02 sensor would come up as a culprit in the conditions you describe so leave that for trouble shooting later if you solve the first issue and it does not resolve itself. I suppose it's possible that you need a new fan but you can test it easily by plugging it directly up the battery terminals to see if they come on. Here is a recent write-up for a coolant temp. sensor change (which I suspect is your true issue): http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread ... sor-change
