1998 v70 na I have cracks in the metal around the corner hood latches , where the U shaped latches comes from the hood . Anyone else have this problem ? . No hint that the hood has been damaged . As it is now the hood bounces and daily adds to the stress. Thought of using some metal plates and sheet metal screws to hold it in position . Thank you , frisky

Another thread came up about this not too long ago. He ended up having it welded.

Thanks , I did search first but didn't find anything . Just stopped at a local body shop and they wouldn't touch it calling it a safety issue.

frisky99, make sure that whoever welds it takes care of the paint... I just noticed that the paint on the side panels has little pock marks where slag (or some or sort of welding material) burned through the paint... good luck. I hope you have better luck than I did.

A little update. I found someone to weld it today and and was warned like the previous places I tried that hood damage was inevitable. Picked it up thinking the worst and surprised at the great job they did. Just a dime size or less peel in the clear coat at the edge of the hood, not even noticeable.
They said they used some heat absorbing jell on the hood. Cost $100 and they spent an hour on it. What a relief not to have the hood bouncing around with the fear of it one day flying up. frisky

I have fixed a couple with MIG set to a low amp setting to prevent burn through. I put wet towel on hood above work area. I welded 3/4 inch, paused 5 or more minutes for cooling and then welded more in increments until I was happy with it. It is ugly on underside but no paint damage to outer panel in that area.

Another option is junk yard hood, which is about $65 in my area.
If you are lucky to have the same color, then you are all set.
