1999 V70na Rear Hatch struts fail

Post by paredown »

I'm bummed--I replaced the original hatch struts with Stabilus SG415009 OEM that were on Amazon, about a year and half ago.
https://www.amazon.com/Stabilus-SG41500 ... +Volvo+850

(Seller has 100% positive feedback, and they did come with what looked like original labels/packaging)

Yesterday my wife tells me that they are no longer working. :x

Any chance that they have popped off, rather than failed?

Never mind--pulled off the trim. Both are leaking from the seals and appear to have no holding power left.

Looking at the product, they are marked as Stabilus but of Mexican production. I see a similar complaint on the FCP page for a Stabilus Made in Mexico replacement.

Anyone know if there are struts available that actually work?

For some reason, the item that comes up on the search has that name, but when I purchased them, the store name was Lift Depot. Besides, I don't think a seller should be condemned by nationality/name.

And both (or are they the same?) sellers have a lot of positive feedback. And the struts are definitely marked as Stabilus made in Mexico. So unless they are selling counterfeit production--but if that were so, you would expect to see more negative feedback.

I've had URO struts for a year or so. $40 for the pair off Amazon. They're holding up so far.

This part is easy enough to change, and the consequences of its failure are trivial enough, that I don't mind buying cheapies.
