Aus 2009 XC60 T6 Check Engine Light

Post by Graeme17 »

Hope someone may be able to assist as I have 2 problems. First, with ignition key inserted, when I push the start button without my foot on the brake the vehicle goes through its initialisation process where all dash lights are illuminated for a short period. All dash lights go out except for the "Check Engine Light" that remains illuminated and blinks randomly. After the engine is started and running the light is no longer on.

Using a Carsoft I906 code reader indicates no faults stored in the ECU.

Second issue I have is the car randomly hesitates at a constant throttle setting. If the cruise control is engaged the hesitation will cause the cruise control to disengage. Spark plugs are brand new, I only use 98 grade petrol and there is no loss in acceleration or power. The problem is more prevalent when the vehicle has only run a short distance from start up.

From my research it appears a faulty "Fuel Pressure Sensor" could be the cause of the second issue.

Appreciate any advice, thanks.

After a trip to "the stealers" tomorrow I hope to obtain solutions. Very surprised that other owners have made no comment on the hesitation problem, apparently it is not uncommon.

Evaluate your battery first. Battery or charging system issues could cause both your problems.

Update after being stung for $A587. Volvo Diagnostics found no faults and communicated they did not observe the Check Engine Light flashing. The mechanic stated the Check Engine Light should remain illuminated until the engine is started. The short road test they used to produce the engine hesitation was unsuccessful in identifying the problem.

The given advice was to carry out a software upgrade on the vehicle as it had not been at "the stealers" for 4 years as I do my own servicing and maintenance. Other advice given was to check fuel quality, I only use 98 grade, and install new spark plugs, these had only been previously exchanged <100Kms.

I paid to have the software upgrade done and left "the stealers" unconvinced that there would be a positive outcome. It is early days, during the 50Km trip home there was no engine hesitation. The Check Engine Light no longer flashes on the first detent of the Start Button.

Thanks Jimmy57 for your advice. The battery was previously exchanged <500Kms, my scanner indicated a charge voltage within specified limits. I am left with a hidden suspicion that a battery failure may have corrupted the ECU and carrying out a software reset may have resolved the problem.

Time will tell if I again have a vehicle that performs admirably.
