2.3 turbo transplant into 1999 awd

Post by s70dean »

Hey there
First post here! 8)
The volvo bug bit me last Feb when i picked up a 1998 T5m at a basket case price.. After doing the RMS,timing belt and re doing the PVC on that car I quickly realized how well these cars are built and that they're truly designed to last a long time as long as maintenance is done in a timely fashion.
Now for questions.
I recently purchased a low kms 1999 s70 awd with the intentions of just putting it back to stage zero and enjoying it as it is.
Well don't you know now a 1998 t5 engine has presented itself,,,also for low $$ and i thought it would be an interesting swap to have the high pressure turbo and awd in an s70..
I think mechanically the 1998 t5 should bolt up to the 1999 trans but now my questions are.
How compatible are these two wiring harness,,,One engine is dizzy and the 1999 being cop?
High pressure vs low pressure should be just a ECM swap to control it???
Bosch vs Denso,,, do they play nice together?
lets hear your ideas even if it's just leave it alone and drive her as it was meant to be..
Cheers
Dean

Very strange, I know Ozark Lee posted a complete reply in this thread a couple days ago, now it is gone. And it's not a duplicate post by OP, I searched Lee's recent posts ...

Bottom line is engine management differences are too great. Moreover you can't play around with swapping ECUs on the 99, it is married to the car. If the 99 is not a turbo then don't even think about it unless you have boatloads of time, experience and patience - just buy a turbo car to start with.

The OP posted twice, many hours apart (why?), and a moderator nuked the wrong one, if I have the story straight.

But yea, 98-99 is probably as big a jump in engine management/accessories/ports as any Volvo has done within a single engine type. In other words, you'd be hard pressed to find a worse consecutive 2 years.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

1998 V70, no dash lights on

1997 850 T5 [gone] w/ MSD ignition coil, Hallman manual boost controller, injectors, R bumper, OMP strut brace

2004 V70 R [gone]

How to Thank someone for their post

OK the standard duplicate post issue with a twist ... thanks for the sanity check!
