Replacing the battery on my '98 V70 AWD SW
Hi Everyone! I am new(ish) to being a Volvo fanatic. I bought my first Volvo about a year and a half ago, which was an '85 DL Sedan that had over 300,000 miles on her. Sadly, Velma died in May of this year. My guys at Swedish Automotive here in Seattle thought that, because of her numerous engine leaks, multiple variables played into her death diagnosis. In June, however, I purchased Veronica, a 1998 v70 AWD SW, from a very honest and cool young Volvo fanatic about an hour south of Seattle. He's the one that turned me onto this website and I love it! I have multiple questions about the v70 but the freshest on my mind happened today when I purchased a new battery for Veronica. I sort of feel like I got taken, despite me doing a fair amount of research before buying today. This is what I bought from Batteries Plus: https://www.batteriesplus.com/battery/c ... l/sli48h6m. Out the door I paid $147 for this Duracell battery. Is this a good brand? A good price? Everyone has heard of Duracell for domestic batteries but I wasn't 100% on their reputation for car batteries. I'm a huge Costco fan for many reasons but one of the primary reasons is because of the way they stand behind their products. I did not get pricing from them, however, prior to the purchase today from BP. I am NOT a fan of Walmart but they are advertising a comparable Everlast battery for at least $40 cheaper than this Duracell brand at BP. I'm thinking of returning this Duracell and buying either a Kirkland Signature or Interstate from Costco. What are your thoughts? Was I "taken"?

Yes- you paid to much but probably not by a huge amount. A lot of places rebrand Enterstate batteries and these seem to do well in our cars. Try Napa as well as Costco. I don't know much about the brand they sell. My last purchase of a decent battery was about $120 out the door (tax etc).

Up here Volvo use re-branded Interstate batteries and they are good. With an assumption of a 75c exchange rate you paid a little more I think than I pay here even for a Volvo battery. I usually buy Interstate batteries either direct or from a local parts store as they sell a higher output Intersatae battery for about the same price as Volvo.

I paid around $110 for my Walmart Everstart Maxx battery. Batteries Plus is ridiculously expensive on just about everything. That's not too awful, especially if it's a good battery, but the one I have is probably the same thing for $30 less.
All of our batteries are probably about the same thing anyway... I guarantee you that it says "Manufactured by Johnson Controls" somewhere on it!

I may still take it back to Batteries Plus and go with Interstate @ Costco due to the 8 year warranty Costco and Interstate offer. Price-wise, it's about the same at Costco after fees and taxes.

I was going to say you didn't pay too much to warrant another trip back.
Hanging in Seattle today , btw, love it. Fly back east tomorrow morning.
