Reattaching Rear View Mirror in 2005 Volvo S60

So I was in a rush to get somewhere and threw my messenger bag into my car and in so doing knocked my rearview mirror loose.

Can someone help explain how to reattach this. I saw a previous post about someone doing something similar but the diagram someone posted in response wasn't comprehensive. I've seen answers as simple as you'll just need a screwdriver to you'll have to completely remove all of the mounting and need several tools.

I've attached pictures at the bottom to show you all what I'm looking at. I feel like I should be able to just snap it back in place but isn't happening. Also, I still have the cover for everything I just popped it all off to take pictures and see what was going on.
