I have one broken rear spring on my 2002 S40. I plan to replace both rear springs and was wondering if anyone has experience with slightly stiffer and lower than stock springs in his or her S40.
I was considering Eibach, H&R, Koni or something like that vs. the standard Bixstein's and OEM springs. I'd welcome a little lowering like 1" or less and slightly more responsive handling while avoiding a harsh ride. I know it's easy to go too stiff when using aftermarket springs/shocks.
Thanks in advance for sharing any experience.

Try Shox.com
Also google Viva Sports but to be honest they are a bit pricey...of course there is always IPDusa.com You can read reviews there of how things worked out for those who bought the different springs. Or course there's always fcpeuro who is carrying some springs besides factory now as well.
My '07 S40 is lowered with Heico springs and sports suspension which I understand is their own version of Bilstein shocks/struts that they had manufactured (you cant' buy them from anywhere else)...and my car lowered about 30mm, with is a bit over an inch... I do not know what is an appropriate combo for your car though. If no answers here, check over on swedespeed.com "There are a bunch of folks doing crazy things (and decent 1 inch lowering) to their suspensions there.

Thanks for your reply. I have used Shox.com some years back when I had a Mini Cooper JCW. Bought set of Koni FSD shocks from them. I'll check out the Heico springs. Your 2007 S40 is probably close enough to my 2002 in the suspension dept. to make for a good comparison.

well actually the cars completely changed after Ford bought Volvo back in the mid 2000's so our suspensions are completely different. Good luck and report back what you end up doing.

Correct. I see the Heico are only available for more current years of S40 (i.e. 2006+). Mine is a 2002.MadeInJapan wrote:well actually the cars completely changed after Ford bought Volvo back in the mid 2000's so our suspensions are completely different.
