Help needed. What is this part ?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

I assume the engine oil cooler works by circulating cool-ish water/coolant through this ´box´through which oil circulates?

I have another car with an oil cooler, but that circulates the engine oil through a small radiator that´s located next to the engine cooling system´s radiator; I am not familiar with how this ´box´works.

Hello and thanks for help !!! .If oilcooler is broken can it make oil look this like in pic. Also we check before we take oil out, that there is no presure in tubes, from radiator to motor. Also no bubbles in expansion tank or pressure. Motor run ok. Only white smoke. So water in oil but where comes ? From oil cooler ? What is a easiet test for it ? I think also change breather box. And clean tubes if problem is oil cooler. I scare head gasket. Oil cooler not so big problem. Oils driven in pic 2000km Sorry i cant just now put the pic of oil.but color is like milkcafe. I put photo from laptop littlebit later. Android dont give put attachments pics from google drive or google pics ?

Here some photos of reparation. Radiator fluid is in dirty container, no exhaust gases are cooled by liquid (sorry bad english ,sometimes must use google translator) hope everybody understand ? How i can take breather box out and change it new one ? Enyone do it before ? Is there more places where water can mixed with oil. Can all be oilcooler fault ? Oil pressure sensor gone broke half year ago, warning light "no pressure stop" then friend change it and car run good 1000km, then loud noise from motor. My friend think that there is dirty in oil channels. then we wash motor forte motor flus and i put new oil and filter. motor sounds great. Now couples week ago look oil stick and see this :o What can be happened ??? What i must to do ??

The white smoke from your exhaust tells me that more than likely it is the head gasket, that is most likely the place that the coolant is going to be introduced to the exhaust. The milky oil could be from the cooler as it is a basically a small radiator, tubes for oil to flow in with tubes for the coolant, also rings and head gasket would also cause that oil condition.
