2000 v70 xc 2.4 timing vvt exhaust only

2000 v70 xc 2.4 timing vvt exhaust only

I need to replace valves on the 2000 2.4 turbo engine that has vvt on exhaust side only. what are the steps for timing this engine

If you don't remove the CVVT hub in the process you can set the CVVT preload just like you would when changing the timing belt. Line up the marks, rotate the engine clockwise to the marks again and go an additional 90 degrees past the marks. Rotate back to the marks counterclockwise and then remove the belt from the cams and line up the mark on the exhaust cam as you thread the belt back on.

If you remove the CVVT hub from the camshaft then you need to have the cam adjustment tool to get it right and it is a bit more involved. The instructions for setting up the cam timing is in this file:

This is for a '99 but it is the same.

You can change the front cam seal without removing the hub by threading the seal around the lobes but you need to be real careful that you have it lined up when you torque down the cam cover.

++ 1 million to Lee. Once you put cover on there is no working space behind the sprocket. You end up trying to work through the offset holes in the sprocket with a skinny flat head screwdriver . Tap tap tap. Praying that it sets correctly. Good luck.

I need to replace water pump and all 4 cam seals but can't get both the cvvt and camshaft marks to line up correctly so I can install cam locking tool, and move on any suggestions

Get the crankshaft on the clearance mark first - so that then you can turn the cams without worrying about damaging anything.

If you hit something trying to get the crank to the mark, then gently move each cam so you can move the crank more to the mark

Light hand pressure on a 30 mm wrench only until you have the crank out of the way.

I installed the tool and replaced the water pump , tensioner, idle pully and got 1 seal off went to take off the exhaust cvvt and it just kept turning and turning the bolt wasn't coming out so I checked and the darn cam locking tool broke and I don't know what to do next because I need to replace that cvvt seal its leaking alot but im afraid the timing is all screwed up now.....

As long as the crank is in the timing clearance mark, the cam can turn forever without damage

You need a new cam tool to set it up, lock it, undo the Torx screw holding the VVT ON, then you can replace the seals and orings

A friend that works at ipd let me borrow his cam locking tool and told me the timjng belt need to be kn to get the t55 bolt loose so I did and now its not loose but instead the head of the bolt got stripped how can I get this vvt off now its been leaking or weeks and causing all kinds problems....

Know someone with a welding background? High amperage, weld the damn torx (using the torx as an electrode) to the bolt and back it out. Then replace the bolt...

They'll likely have to use the end of the camshaft where the locking tool goes in to get a good ground. It's a VERY nasty way to do it, but it may work. More likely then not your Torx bit just couldn't get enough bite. I'd be tempted to replace it with a metric hex bolt but there is a possibility that the cap that goes over that torx may not fit. I do not know if that bolt is typically awash in oil...

I think I would remove the cam cover, lift out the cam and VVT, get thee to a machine job and have it drilled out
