Strange transmission issue
First, I searched for a while and found no similar issues. After a radiator failure the other day (the neck broke off for the upper hose) I replaced it with a good used one. Warmed up and filled coolant, trans fluid looked full fully warmed up. Still appears full. All connectors plugged back in, etc. Now it seems like the torque converter is staying locked up most of the time. It has even stalled a couple of times because of it. The worst is when you let off the gas at highway speed its almost like a manual with an unsprung clutch. It lurches. It doesn't shift as smooth. Has anyone experienced this? If so what solved it?

When ATF was overheated many times, TCM switches to safe mode and locks torque converter as much as possible to reduce heat generation. In order to fix this condition (if transmission is still not wrecked at this point) you need to reset fluid change counter using VIDA and DiCE.

Is there any way to reset it without Vida?

I guess, advanced enough J2534 scanner can do this, but it is usually sold for over one grand.
Chinese clone of DiCE is real cheap these days, about $100. Or find someone with DiCE.

I called the dealer to ask a price for this, the service advisor I talked to acted on me I was speaking Mandarin. Is there anyone in south west Pennsylvania that can help? Or anywhere you can steer me?

It's a Japanese transmission, not Chinese. Problem solved.hiroshima1320 wrote:I called the dealer to ask a price for this, the service advisor I talked to acted on me I was speaking Mandarin. Is there anyone in south west Pennsylvania that can help? Or anywhere you can steer me?
Seriously, a good indie servicing Volvos will have a VIDA subscription. If they don't, it's not your garage.
