2000 V70 Master Power window switch question

Post by mslinker »

Folks, I have read plenty of posts and tutorials for cleaning and replacing this part but I have come across contradictory information in a few places with respect to software settings associated with its' disconnection (i.e. the gas filler door will no longer work if this part is disconnected).

Can anyone advise if there is any risk of removing this part?

Thank you,

Mike

I think it's the same as what's on my '98 S70. If so, there is no problem at all in disconnecting it. I have swapped two sets out without disconnecting the battery. I don't think it's connected up to the computer at all and the gas lid is not even tied into that master switch. If things changed for model year '99 and 2000, someone please post up, but I don't think that they did.

The gas door and rear hatch release are their own switches that are lower on the door on the '99 and 2000 models. I think I have replaced my '99 version of the master window switch with a new one and it didn't take any software downloads. Plug and Play. The gas door power may loop through the window switch but I don't know for sure. In my case I just replaced it with new at the same time that I took the old one out so I never had an opportunity to try the door without the window switch in place.

Not at all. '98 - '00 S70's and V70's have very basic window systems.
They have no software, they're just switches. Fix those windows!

We have a bunch of CanBus stuff on the " bastard 1999,2000,2001 " years in between P80 and P2 but windows are still analogue.

The gas tank switch IS tied in through the master window switch, specifically, the door lock portion of the switch. If the door lock button on the master power window switch is unplugged or faulty, your gas door will not unlock.

The only risk in pulling the piece is cosmetic. Be careful not to destroy your trim when prying it out. Use a bone tool, and put a rag between your pry tool and the door trim. Use a high quality replacement if you are replacing the switch. Cheap ones don't last, in my experience.
