99 C70 Convertible top problems, water leaking into storage compartment

Post by wrathofpaul »

we had some heavy rain today and I noticed a ton of water sloshing around in the back of the car. turns out the storage compartment for the convertible top was filled with water. I assume there's a drain somewhere but I don't know where it is. also, Is there a way to manually crank the top from start to finish both open and closed? I was able to get the top to almost come down completely. before all it would do is stop after the back window came up. this allowed me to finally see inside the roof compartment. But then for a while I was pressing the button and the top wasn't closing all the way. it seemed like it was stuck it just stopped 3 inches from sealing to the windshield. There's two holes in the trunk for tools (See attached picture) I assume one or both of them is a manual crank? I turned the one on the right left and right (not sure how I did it) and then that's when I was able to get the top to almost fully work (it did everything except close the compartment cover at the end)

Thanks all. I tried searching for this on the site but I didn't find a lot of info about how to manually crank the top. Do I need the tools that came with the car or can I use something else? I only have the "T" shaped thing.

The drains are on either side, kind of large round plastic discs with holes that cover a funnel down that become clogged. You can just flip them out, clean up, run a wire through what's beneath and put the discs back in (be careful they are seated properly to seal off).

See link below for drain info. To close top manually there is a hex key/allen wrench tool that is used in the trunk area you noted and to close and lock front take cover off Motor located inside car near rear view mirror and use hex key on motor. Check owners manual for manual operation of top.
