Low port 2.9L for a/c

Post by RedVolvo »

Cannot be sure I have located the low port to recharge my a/c on my S90.
The port I found is located right of the silver cannister on the large metal line.

Does anyone know if this engine has only one port(low port) and not a high port?

Appreciate your help

low side will say suction or S on fat line, small line is the high pressure side. On 88 240 it is on compressor

Suprisingly, just about every Volvo model is different. Some have high/low ports, some just high or just low.

I discovered the S90 2.9l has only a lowport schrader valve right next to the silver evap cannister. 850's have their lowport located just behind the left front headlamp.

I followed the lines throughout the engine and underbody to discover only one port for this particular model.

If anyone needs assistance to recharge an S90 a/c 2.9l engine, please feel free to PM me. I have done it successfully and there doesn't seem to be any clear directions anywhere for this procedure.

So I just completed the AC recharge of my 1998 Volvo S90. The Low port is in the fat tube beside the silver canister (it looks like a collection tank). It had a black cover that screws off. The label on the cap was 6NM. I saw no high port.

My AC compressor would kick on then off. over and over. The guage on the recharge cit would show below 26 psi whenever the compressor was operating, then bounce into the high 30's. Since the needle went below the acceptable range when the compressor was on I went ahead with the recharge as indicated.

As soon as I opened the can, the contents were sucked out so fast! The compressor stopped cycling on and off, and just remained on. The needle showed just above the 25 PSI mark, which is the minimum. I checked the AC in the car and it was quite cool! I have decided not to bring the level up further, becasue I figure with the lower pressure I will have less chance of developing a leak.

Hope this is helpful!

The label on the cap was 6NM.
This is the tightening torque for the cap.
