Yeah, it’s free for use on the yard. You just ask them up front and the bring it over with the forklift.
First time I’ve used it, I was surprised how easy it lifts the engine up! I’ve only ever used hydraulic jack style engine hoists before.
I was really happy the guy brought the transmission up to the front with the forklift, I was beat after pulling it! No way I was going to take it myself in the wheelbarrow.
Even loaded in in my car with the forklift... that was nerve wracking, but he did it with no damage!

Also, am I reading your tag right that you're going to pull the 5 speed out of your car to put in a 6 speed?

Yes, the pick n pulls usually have carts, wheelbarrows and crane lifts of some type to help you get engines and so forth. Sometimes the staff will even help you remove large items like that.

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
That's the plan! Once I have another daily driver (likely the 940) and I've gathered the parts I need, I'm going to pull the engine and M56 and bolt on the M66. At the same time, I'll swap in the P2R water pipe and K24 w/ R exhaust manifold, which will be rebuilt with the hybrid billet compressor wheel w/ 71mm exducer by Nick Knight at Duke City Turbobricks in Albuquerque. It'll be expensive, but well worth it, I think!
Working on gathering parts now... now that I have the M66, I need an angle gear, driveshaft, passenger side axle, clutch disk, slave cylinder, and the shifter cables. I got the shifter from the S60R, but the cables were damaged... which I discovered after pulling them, of course!

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
On a much more tame note, I took it for its yearly MOT. A pass, with an advisory for a 1mm hole in the weld between backbox and tailpipe. No hard feelings, original exhaust on 194k. Must be replaced, so currently hunting a new mid-section. Bosul is OE for my car, but the UK arm went bust years ago. Klarius are widely available with a 3 year warranty, but I am unaware of what their quality is like.

I admire the effort! Having never dropped a transmission I thought it seemed like alot of work for 1 extra gear, but it seems like you're rebuilding quite a bit. If I can ask, what is your home garage setup like?bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 9:25 am

I have some car-guy friends but before I got my Volvo I never really saw cars as much more than a necessary evil of living in modern society. My 4-5 months of ownership with my 99 s70 m56 has taken me from 'must learn how to do more than an oil change and air filter' to 'when I buy a house it has to have a garage'.

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
It's less about the extra gear and more about the AWD. It's something that's bothered me since I first did the M56 swap, and as much as I love the M56 and don't want to add even more weight to my already extremely heavy car, I would prefer to use the AWD. I mean, what's a V70R without AWD? Hahasmacknab wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 4:41 am I admire the effort! That was my thinking originally though... I already have the M56 and I really don't think I need the extra gear (I usually keep it in 4th anyway, I rarely use 5th except on the highway), but I like the idea of bringing back the AWD. More traction for more power!
We have a 2 car attached garage, which I've mostly kicked my dad out of due to my car stuff

My cousin's co-workers (he's a mechanic at the VW dealer) were very impressed with my setup when they saw some pictures during the M56 swap on his car, but I guess I don't see it because I'm used to it! They loved my 20 ton shop press! I've also got a parts washer, 26 gallon compressor, engine hoist, transmission jack, and plenty of other specialty tools, along with the normal assortment of hand tools. My Harbor Freight US General 5 drawer roll cart is one of my favorite things, definitely a great buy if you want an affordable tool box that you can roll around the garage.

Volvo shortens that acronym to T5, then puts it on the back of the car so you can see it.I mean, what's a V70R without AWD?
Off to polish my waterfall....

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
Perfectly reasonable. I've always thought AWD stands for Added Weight, Don't.
