Got the timing cover gasket on today, just need to finish reassembly tomorrow. The job really isn't nearly as hard as people would make it out to be, but it seems I continue to make this discovery every time I hear that... usually the people saying it haven't done the job themselves!
It is, however, VERY time consuming... these V8s don't have much room to work around. But it's a good trade off... they're fantastic engines!
I will make a write up for this job in the next week or so, as I haven't been able to find one aside from those grim warnings from older Swedespeed threads. It will focus on the core of the work, I won't detail information on removing the power steering pump, pulleys, and whatnot as there are already good threads on that. Plus, it's self explanatory if you do this stuff regularly.
Fortunately VIDA has the basics in the procedure for timing chain overhaul.
Once that's done, I'll be installing a transmission cooler from a T6 and doing a fluid change. I figure since it's down, I might as well knock out as much work as I can. Plus, the trans cooler will help make it more suited for towing... I don't have any other vehicles to tow home my $300 Volvos so I need to keep this one in good shape
