Bought a OMP strut brace yesterday, installed it today (after work, hence the crappy picture)

Previous owner got it powercoated black, looks stealthier than the original orange

Have you noticed any vibrations or increase in NVH since fitting the polybush upper mount? Mine is starting to go, and tempted to polybush it.

Nothing really bothering at idle compared to the stock bushing. It does get noisier over 3k rpm and under load tho, but it sounds kinda good

Started tearing down the XC today to reseal the timing cover. All that's left is to pull the valve covers, pulleys, crank pulley, and passenger side engine mount. Hopefully things continue to go smoothly. It's really not a bad job, just time consuming!

I worked in one of these with shockwave. It’s thirsty but a beautiful motor.

Thirsty indeed... it averages around 18 MPG. Hopefully a little more once this is done since I'll be replacing the plugs while I'm in here. I didn't want to do it sooner because the valve covers were leaking into them, and these plugs aren't cheap!
They look original at 164k miles.

It's incredible how small they are though... 60 degrees is tight for a V8. Still no room to work on it, but it's better with the intake manifold off!

Eh... I guess 18 isn't too bad. I average 19 in my R.

Finally time and weather aligned to swap out my junkyard belt tensioner and new serpentine belt, finished before work this morning. Previous owner had put in the wrong size belt, too big by 12mm, the tensioner removed wasn’t stamped with any manufacturer, just a part number, and was easily moved tighter or loose by hand. See if it fixes the flickering at idle issue, but at least I know all that is proper moving forward.

(ETA: it did not fix that little idle flickering issue).

Got the timing cover gasket on today, just need to finish reassembly tomorrow. The job really isn't nearly as hard as people would make it out to be, but it seems I continue to make this discovery every time I hear that... usually the people saying it haven't done the job themselves!
It is, however, VERY time consuming... these V8s don't have much room to work around. But it's a good trade off... they're fantastic engines!

I will make a write up for this job in the next week or so, as I haven't been able to find one aside from those grim warnings from older Swedespeed threads. It will focus on the core of the work, I won't detail information on removing the power steering pump, pulleys, and whatnot as there are already good threads on that. Plus, it's self explanatory if you do this stuff regularly.
Fortunately VIDA has the basics in the procedure for timing chain overhaul.

Once that's done, I'll be installing a transmission cooler from a T6 and doing a fluid change. I figure since it's down, I might as well knock out as much work as I can. Plus, the trans cooler will help make it more suited for towing... I don't have any other vehicles to tow home my $300 Volvos so I need to keep this one in good shape

That is an awesome look inside the V8 version. Man, those timing chains!

Meanwhile, I just discovered the source of an occasional clanging sound from the rear of my Silver Bullet ('00 V70 MT) — the tailpipe hanger has rusted off.

So far, I've spent more time watching the video on this story on the 850 R than fixing the Silver Bullet. (It's cold out there!) https://www.autoevolution.com/news/1995 ... 40673.html

It's cool to look at, but I can't stand timing chains... belts are so much easier to deal with!
