Care to share a picture, part #, or diagram of the harness so others know to pull it from junkyards?

The 1999 I (kind of) stripped had the CD changer in the trunk complete with the special floor panel. I'm a little sad I didn't take those parts, but I likely didn't know about all the harnesses.

foggydogg, I seem to recall the wagons have the wiring already in place for the CD changer under the LH rear floor panel. Maybe someone can confirm that?

I also have a complete glove box which has mounts in it for a CD changer and the connector wire for that...........! What? Doesn't everyone????

As manov found, make sure you get the CD changer and it's bracket if you get that neat storage bin it has!

Mine is pre-wired for the CD changer. It's under the LH floor panel in the cargo area.

The tough part is that Volvo no longer makes the harness, so a used one is the only option. I don't know why people pull only the amp, when the harness is the really important part!

Frustrating day today trying to fix one of my load covers with the repair parts for the broken end pieces which is a common issue.

The part is basically a shaped piece of steel the shape of the inside of the end cap with a piece of tube welded to one side facing inwards towards the cover. That tube has a slot cut in it which is there to tension and slide on the 'T' shaped end extension of the central tube.

I was trying to figure a way to fix a fault with the repair design. The design instructions tell you to remove the remaining plastic section of the end cap. The problem with that is that plastic seats on a plastic cap on top of a spring. That spring is what gives the outward tension on the end caps to push them outwards to keep the cover unit in place.

2nd fault is it does not hold the end caps on so they fall odd allowing the spring tension for retracting the cover to undo.

I thought I had a fix for the tensioning part of the problem, and it did work. Problem was it was too wide in the center of the main tube and jammed the cover preventing tensioning it. This then broke the end 'T' off the tube. I thought it was metal but it is only a hard plastic plug with a 'T' on the end.

So now a new problem to fix but it may have a possible positive on how to stop the metal tensioning plates from falling out when the caps fall off.

Positive part of the day is I may have found a possible source for the T5 leaded bulb for the automatic trans position light on the center console. Also for the ashtray bulb (they look the same and are made in the same way).

Those are on the way and they are basically a larger version of the bulbs as used for the light switches on the dashboard.

I'll let you know how that works out as they are on the way!

Finally drove the V70 around the neighbourhood today, very carefully still.
I swapped the Skandix rear engine mount for the Volvo one off the donor car, it's definitely quieter.

Idle is quite high when the engine is warm, gotta investigate that (is the TPS value supposed to be around 5% at idle ? )

And timing belt tensioner still needs to be adjusted, starting to miss the hydraulic tensioner

Bulbs arrived from Digi-key today. Then spent several hours on what I had hoped was a simple task! Broke off the old bulb and tried to fit a new one through the holes where the old wire had bee removed from. Could not find a way to get anything through the holes that the old bulb leads had been in.

Eventually cut open one old one to see why I could not get the wires for the new bulbs is. Eventually pulled one of the 2 pins out that I had cut the plastic around and found it had a barbed end on it.

So I figure they make them with the plastic body, fit the bulb and the leads through the base, then push in the contact pins which locks the wires in place against the body of the bulb holder.

I'm then guessing they use something like a spot welder to connect the pins to the legs of the bulbs as they are not soldered.

I think the bulbs may be ok without soldering , but I broke out the old electronics soldering iron which has a really small tip. Managed to get both pins to hold in place but would not brag about the quality!

I'll take some photos and do a write up for both the bulbs and add it to the thread. Do question the sanity of repairing v's buying the stupid expensive bulbs from Volvo!
