2000 S80 Evap Leak

Post by GrkS80 »

Car: 2000 S80 Non-turbo
Mileage:120k
Owner duration: 1.5 yrs

Soon after purchase, we've had an issue w/ the car hesitating upon acceleration. Several months later, a cel P0442 (small Evap leak) popped up. As soon as I'd clear the code, the car drove and sounded a lot better but of course it would pop up every 15-20 miles. I swapped out the MAF sensor with a used one for the heck of it and the car drove better than ever but right before the 80 mile obd cycle completed, the cel came back and so did the hesitation. Finally had some time and I did a visual check on the J hose and it looked fine. Had a smoke test done last week and a steady stream of smoke was exiting out of the air cleaner (I believe that's what it is called) [img]

Sooo.... My questions are:
1. Do I need to replace the air cleaner or some stuck shut off valve leading to the air cleaner?
2. I looked up a diagram online and it makes it appear that the shut off valve is directly above the air cleaner but we did not see one when the car was on the lift, so where is it located? I'm assuming closer to the cannister?
3. Would this cause my hesitation issues? Sorry for the long post but I know it's hard to be an e-mechanic so I wanted to be as detailed as possible.

Thanks in advance!
