Angle torque wrench recommendation?

Post by scot850 »

I am seriously tired of Volvos and all their angle torque values. I have tried for years using those stupid cheap angle torque attachments with the adjustable rods. They are hopeless for high torques (I have broken 2 of them or they slip and give bad readings). They are also hopeless for tight spaces and there is never something to lock the rod to nearby it seems:

I have decided to fork out for a proper digital type torque wrench with angle options. They have come down in price over the last couple of years, but I always try to balance cost versus frequency of use versus accuracy and lifespan/warranty. In this case I do use the angle facility fairly frequently so I am willing to pay more for a better wrench.

Have any of you bought one of these tools and if so what have been your experiences and things to watch out for if you had to do it again?

Prices range from Eastwoods 1/2" digital torque wrench which would appear to have a good feedback:

up to $XXXX's if you are crazy.

Inputs appreciated!

Neil.

Most every angle torque I've see on Volvo is a simple multiple of the hex bolt.

I just mark them with sharpie and use a breaker bar

You guys are way too fancy. I just eyeball it like a clock face and I bet I'm within 5 degrees every time, even if it takes more than one swipe at it to get ratchet clearance.

I agree with above.

If you want to spend your money, spend it on the torque wrench itself (Gray,Snap On, Mac, Matco), if you have one, just use a marker for the angle
