pricing for 2000 C70 Convertible, HPT w/5spd & working top?

Post by ajh_1234 »

I have no illusions about getting a lot of money for this car, but I don't want to under price it either. I've searched NADA (doesn't seem to account for all the variables) and completed eBay auctions (far too small a sample size). I was unable to find much info on these forums, either.

I'd appreciate some input--ballpark range pricing thoughts for the following:

- 2000 C70 Convertible
- HPT 2.3 liter 5 cylinder engine
- 5-speed manual transmission
- 170,000-ish miles
- Nautic Blue
- rust-free/southern car
- new spark plugs
- new coil packs
- 17" wheels, may need straightening (vibrates at certain speeds even after balancing)
- good tires
- mechanically working top, but needs new fabric or at least rear-window re-glued
- The interior is rough in places, especially the driver's seat.
- "ETS" light is on, but no other ETM symptoms. Engine runs fine.
- leaks a little oil, consumes a little oil--not outside what I would expect given the mileage
- slow power steering fluid leak
- pinhole in the heater core? can smell antifreeze when I run the heat, but it doesn't lose coolant at any noticeable rate.
- headgasket leak ruled out by reputable independant Volvo shop (the misfire I had was resolved with new plugs and coil packs)

I've been working on this car since I bought it a couple of years ago, mostly catching up on a large amount of "deferred maintenance." It's not all caught up, though, as you can read above.

I replaced tie rods (inner and outer ends), swaybar endlinks, shocks/struts, front springs, spring seats and bearings, spark plugs, coil packs, engine mounts, microswitches and stowage cover lift cables in the convertible top, battery, and probably other stuff I'm forgetting.

It runs well and has a lot of "pep". The ride isn't up to snuff, though. Probably what suspension parts I haven't already replaced, as well as straightening or replacing the wheels would help the ride a lot I think.

It's rough, but a little less rough than when I bought it :).

Thoughts?

To a private buyer...

Low $1000 - within a week
High $2500 - if you wait for the right buyer, show it over and over, etc. Could be months.

At the end of the day it's another P80 that needs work, like 90% of them. The convertible and manual HPT add a little extra value, but it's no 440 Six Pack (Mopar).

+1 on Matthews post. also FYI rear window re-glue typically will not hold up. It is a stress point. I have tried the glue routine on one of my conertibles to no avail. Price as if it needs a new top... if you want to be realistic.

$1,500 if you're lucky. Too many low mileage babied convertibles out there.

Thank you all for your experienced input (why does that sound sarcastic when I type it out? I'm not being sarcastic. Really).

I'll wash it up one last time and get the ad out there.

We are a tough bunch here on MVS. Usually we send the sarcastic types screaming for cover if we want

:D

Good luck with sale!
