98 V70 NA CV axles - turbo or NA - how to tell

I picked up a couple of used OEM axles for $10 each a few months ago and the guy who sold them to me they would work in my car. They have never sold me a wrong part and considering the difficulty of finding them I figured that 20 bucks was worth the risk. He said the turbo axles and NA axles are interchangeable. I've since found out that turbo and non turbo boot kits are NOT interchangeable.

I want to put new boots on them and put in fresh grease but I need to know what kits to order. Is there a way to tell what I've got by looking at them? They're nearly 20 years old so I doubt the p/n sticker is still on them. They both have the 36 mm nut on the end as opposed the the light weight smaller nut.

I pulled them out of a stack of old axles and they are greasy and nasty. Right now they are both wrapped in heavy duty plastic bags. When the time is right I'll unwrap them, degrease the outside and order the boot kits, and anything else I might need.

Some one correct me if I am wrong, the only differences from the 93 to 98 cars was if it was a manual transmission or auto as far as the front wheel drive cars and the awds for 98 had a different right shaft, but the left shaft was the same. The NA or turbo had nothing to do with it for those years anyway.

Thanks. My end result is ordering the boots, so I need to know what I have. I also don't want to waste money on the boots if they wont work on what I ultimately need for my car (for example may have bought the wrong axles).

I was told at the dealership that the boot kits for turbos have much more grease and that the boots may not fit an NA axle. Externally the axles are the essentially the same and are interchangeable. Internally they are apparently different and parts from one type may not work on the other.

I don't know anything about manual vs automatic. The point is: 1) I need to confirm that what I bought will fit/work on my car and 2) If I have parts that will work I need to know what I have so I can buy the correct boot kits.

I posted the most up-to-date info on Turbo vs Non-Turbo Axles in the thread below.
My 1998 S70 GTL has NA axle on the pass side and Turbo Axle on the driver's side. I bought it that way.
In fact, it was the local Volvo dealer that installed the NA Axle on the right side: I have the service records.

Thanks. I appreciate the information. I bought the axles not knowing if they would work because the price was too good to pass up. The axles were from a wrecked car and I dug them out of a big stack of axles taken from wrecked cars. I chose 2 of the same type, black non-rusted shafts, with the big 36 mm nuts on them. One of them has the volvo part number sticker on it and one does not. I suppose that tomorrow I should take a look at that part number. I also have a drivers side axle with a failed boot that I removed from my car that I can compare against what I bought. I haven't done it yet because of the mess.

There is no play in either of the axles I bought and the boots on them seem relatively good, but I want to replace the boots and repack everything with fresh grease. I took the word of the guy who sold them to me who said they would work on my car. He's always been right in the past.
