Static on all radio inputs
Static on all radio inputs
I just picked up a 2004 V70R and noticed an issue today while installing a Grom bluetooth adapter into my factory headunit. For some reason I am getting light static in all inputs on the radio, CD, FM, AM. If you put the volume at 0 it goes away but then even just 1 click up and the static is there but it doesnt get louder with volume, its either volume off and nothing or on with static. Audio works and drowns out the static but I would still like to solve the issue. I tried uninstalling the Grom unit but that didnt help at all. Sadly I just got the car yesterday and never took the time to notice if it was there prior to the install. All the install did was tap into the power wire and ground on a case screw. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Is it possibly a faulty head unit? Thanks for all the help!

Well for one thing that does not sound like the best way to wire it.
If it does not get louder with RPM it sounds to me like a ground issue

If you are using taps to grab the wires pull them off and wire it in right.

HU650 in mine exhibits a higher (than I would normally consider acceptable) power amp section noise floor. I would describe is as a "hiss" that is constant and not tied to volume setting, but is generally not noticeable with vehicle/road noise while driving. Despite this the overall sound quality is one of the better sounding OE setups from the era. FM section also adds it's own high noise floor, substantially higher than I was previously used to (Blaupunkt MP74 with CODEM-D ). But the technology behind the CODEM-D tuner in that blau was quite advanced I'll doubt I'll ever find anything to match that tuner's SQ. The newer punkts post bosch sale of the brand to the Chinese are cheap and backtracked to CODEM-IV (PLL analog decoding) which would be technologically comparable to the Mits tuner in these VOLVO HUs and most others, which definitely do NOT rival the clarity of CD/DAB.
