This is kind of a follow-up to my "I replaced my steering rack" thread. Kind of...

The 11th digit of my VIN is 2, so I ordered the correct steering rack (I don't remember if it was a TRW or SMI).

What I noticed was that the inner-tie rod ends on the new rack were a larger diameter than the ones on the rack I replaced. (The rack I replaced was not the original.) It worked fine because I was replacing the outer tie rod ends anyway, but...

Do the TRW and SMI steering racks interchange, other than the tie rod diameter? Or are the entirely different units with different fluid line connections, etc.?

I'm pretty sure both will fit the car. The inner tie rod ends are different.

The TRW rack boots have TRW molded in. That's how I identified my rack as a TRW.
