98 S70 Rear Exhaust Bracket Part Number Question

Post by theWIFES_S70 »

Hey everyone,
Just spent over a half hour (correction, 19 hours...) trying to find out what rear exhaust bracket this is... I can't find the correct part number.

This is my rear-most exhaust bracket.

I'm looking through the parts diagram here: http://www.volvopartswebstore.com/showA ... evel=24656

But cannot find it...

It's not 9434431
Image
https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/110083 ... r-9434431/

Nor is it 9470686
Image
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... et-9470686

Oh my gosh... So the original piece has been redesigned (I can tell by the lip of 9434431) and you have to install both these pieces together, huh? Seems a little over engineered if you ask me... Can anyone give me a confirmation here? Thanks!

It depends on which chassis # you have on your car. The link you give for the layout states for NA cars. Alternate 1 and Alternate 2 depending on chassis # for item #28. 26 looks like is a stiffener plate for either option. Sorry don't have a FWD to compare.

Neil, thanks for replying. Our car is an N/A. I can't see how else this would work unless you install both pieces. I can kinda see one sliding into the other... That sort of makes sense, no?

So after further analysis of this part, it is clear to me that I need 9434431.

However, I cannot for the life of me find the part that bolts onto this piece. 9434431 connects to the frame of the car and the hanger piece bolts onto this piece with two 12mm bolt holes.

This is the information from the parts diagram...
28 Bracket Part Number: 9470686
S70 FC 1; CH 571090-, FC 2; CH 572194-, V70 CH 550089- FC 1; S70 CH 439914-571089, FC 2; S70 CH 438063-572193, V70 CH 374345-550088
ALTER 1 ALTER 2

So confusing... :o Does this mean that part 28 is the same regardless of the variation?

The plot thickens! Good ol' Skandix to the rescue! They're the only ones with a photo of this original part. http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/ex ... r/1031487/

This is VOLVO PART: 3547625

And it's been discontinued...

Man, all of that stuff is like brand new in our salvage yard. If you'd like me to get you that stuff send me a pm.

I tried to get bolts for that thing for our S70 5 years ago and Volvo told me that they were discontinued then. I was really surprised. I had to use bolts from a 960 hood.

I'll probably just get an array of bolts from boltdepot.com... It's always a good idea to have an array of high quality metric flange and hex bolts lying around... Just sent you a PM Robert!!

So according to FCP,
985186
Image

Mounts with 2x of 985186
Image

Which of course, are discontinued.
I can't see how it would mount with two bolts, but I'm going to assume there's something there I can't see because of how the part was photographed.

I'm almost certain these are 12mm bolts...
The exploded parts diagram only shows one bolt that you need two of and I checked it and a 1/2" SAE socket fits around it. Now to figure out how long it needs to be...

Image

I'm thinking 30mm or 35mm in length, if I had to guess...
https://www.boltdepot.com/Metric_flange ... .75mm.aspx

edit:
Just received my bolt order, I guess I should have paid more attention to the specifics. Yes, the boltdepot link above points to 12mm bolts, but 12mm bolts does not mean 12mm socket size bolts! (These are 16mm across the head...) The OE Volvo bolts are 12mm socket size bolts. Which means these are MOST LIKELY 8mm (JIS) flange bolts (12mm head!!) bolts. Guess it's time to place another order...

OK, FCP order is in. Bought everything I could, even this sillyness... (Which shows up in the exploded parts diagram...)

A PIECE OF SWEDISH FELT!

Part no.: 3537385

And a bunch of 12mm bolts in varying lengths from boltdepot.com. They're great with returns, too... Can't wait to put a green check on this thread and be done with it!
