2000 V70 NA 5 speed auto and orange flashing light!

Post by scot850 »

I tried to pull codes to see what they were trying to say is wrong with the car (2000 MY V70 NA 5 speed Auto). Car is running in limp mode and as I understand it the flashing orange arrow of death started flashing on the dash warning panel at the same time as the engine check light came on.

Having done some reading on the issue this can be a sign that the PNP switch is failing and possibly not the trans. Yes I know the 5 speed auto is a weak point!

After connecting Vida, it did not appear to show any thrown codes. How is Vida for pulling trans codes? Should I have seen something? No DTC's where shown what-so-ever, but I believe that can happen with the PNP when it fails but maybe there is a problem my Vida system?

I tried the rowing temp repair, as had the owner but made no difference.

What I did notice is the top torque mount has failed, the lower looks ok, but could not see the crank pulley one. If some/all of these fail, could they affect the transmission operation?

Car is otherwise looking really clean and the lady wants to get rid of it if it is going to be expensive to fix. She was hoping it would see the last son though school before having to replace it.

I have suggested she take it to Volvo to see if they can pull any codes or advise what the issue is so she can decide what to do. I will help her sort the car if I can to keep costs down, but have advised her not to fix anything else until the transmission issue is figured out.

The trans fluid looks really black but as the same time clear, but certainly not red like ATF but I know this car uses 3309 fluid and can't recall the colour but I'm sure it is also red! I could do a drain and flush on the trans for her to see if that would help but not sure that is not just a hail Mary in this case.

Input appreciated.

Neil.
