1995 855 NA: CEL on when stopping in traffic light

Post by lcc014 »

This morning, at 15 degree F, car slowed down and stopped in traffic light. I could feel a sudden shake of car/engine and back to normal. CEL was blinking while waiting for traffic light. Once car started moving on green light, CEL became solid ON. Driving on highway and back road were normal/fine with CEL ON.

I pulled code from A2: 545, 552. A1 had no code (1-1-1). I replaced spark plugs in October (Volvo plugs) about 2000 miles ago. Distributor cap/rotor were replaced back in 238000 miles. Car is about 336000 miles. Would it be time to replace distributor cap/rotor along with spark plug wires ? I reset fault codes this morning.

Thanks,

Ching-Ho Cheng

Thank you. Distributor cap and rotor were Volvo parts (got from dealer back then). What about spark plug wire ?

100k miles is a good time for the preventative maintenance. When was the timing belt last done?

Timing belt and serp. belt were replaced back in 280k miles. So they are still good until 340k/350k miles.

Thanks.

imo, you're within reason to do it all if you havent done the waterpump within 100k.

Timing belt and water pump, there is definitely no need to replace yet. And they are not likely the problem. Serb belt 100k is a long interval.

Most likely cause of stumble coming to idle is a vacuum leak.

Wires could be due, the Bougicords are easily good to 100k but I don;t like to go more than that. Cap and rotor, time for new Bosch items.

I tend to replace my wp everytime I do the belt at 70-80k miles. Personal preference.

Sure. The factory pump I always go three changes on (225k). Then every other change.

Water pump was changed along with Timing Belt back at 280k miles. After I cleared code this morning. So far, driving is fine and no CEL at 30 degree F. Could it be bad gas too ? I refilled gas yesterday morning (Mobil Super) from a station which I have not visited for a long time.

I ordered distributor cap, rotor and wires this afternoon from Boston Volvo. This is the first time that I had "misfire" faulty code in this 21 years old Volvo.

Thanks,

Ching-Ho Cheng
