Steering column adjuster won't clamp

Post by BlackBart »

The steering column adjuster on an 04 XC is loose and won't clamp down. Made a little creak noise when I tried to tighten it.

Do you think this is just in the plastic lever, like maybe the clamp end has cracked and it's not rotating enough? Lever is snug, not floppy, not broken off. Is it hard to get at it?

Thanks -

Our old 850 did that...just like yours wasn't a horrible concern, but still a concern...then the car died.
On the newer models I would say you would have to get into the area under the wheel to see what is engaging and what is not...maybe something is broken off and impeding it from locking down.
