Volvoguard system

Post by 57gretsch »

What if...
...I took the control/receiver, key fob and keys from one vehicle of the same year and model. Transplanted it to the current vehicle.
Does it still need to be programmed? Is it viable?

Don't mix alarm system(Volvo guard II or newer) with central locking. They are different units.

I have a 2000 XC that the key fob has ceased to function. The dealer cannot program a new one for it, for some unknown reason.
I thought that if I could transplant the system from one that is the same year...it would solve so many issues.

If you're adding a replacement remote,
it will need to be brand new from Volvo.

And if the shop you're talking to is unable
to program it into the car, you may wish to
consult a different dealer.

I did get a new replacement from the stealer. They are the ones who claimed they could not program it to the car. Something about the slots being greyed out in the program. I did follow ups with them to no avail.
May give it another go with the stealer here in Newfoundland. See how far I get there.
