1996 850R Zimmerman Rotors and Akebono Pads

Post by wackenhut »

Hi,

So I recently got Zimmerman rotors and Akebono ceramic pads as this was the recommendation from members of the forum. I notice that when I first use the brakes in the morning or after the car sits for a bit that they squeal. It is only when they are first applied though. Has anyone had a similar experience? Does anyone know of a solution?

Thank you.

Yes, exactly. If I lightly drag the brakes for a few feet it goes away for a few days. I chalk it up to morning dew on the rotors or the pad shims not quite doing the job. Premium brake grease on the appropriate parts didn't seem to change anything.

Most common noise comes from the rears. It is important to use the squeal shims. I have that combo on 2 cars with no noise.

Do the zimmerman rotors need to be prepped on the braking surface before installing?

rspi is right, the noise is coming from the rear. It's just so slight it's not been worth taking apart to correct. If I remember correctly, don't the Akebonos come with shims? What would I do? Reglue them? Also, my rotors are OEM resurfaced so I don't think that is part of the problem.
