2000 Volvo S80 5 speaker radio
In 2000, the S80 had an optional five speaker radio that cost $500. My local junk yard has 4 early 2000 S80's all with this five speaker radio. Does anyone know if this optional radio sounds a lot better than the stock 4 speaker radio? Is it worth upgrading now that I can get one for short money? Also, do the later S80's have a radio that has iPhone connectivity or Bluetooth that would fit into my 2000 model?

You need the radio, a center speaker, the underseat amp and harness and for a great sound you need all the speakers or some really great aftermarket speakers and yes, it's that much better but it's more work than just exchanging radios
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

I believe it is 9 speakers, yes it sounds better. My 2002 S80 T6 had the 8xx optional stereo that my current 2004 S80 T6 has the 6xx stereo, so I have owned both. Neither sounds near as good as the 9 channel optional stereo my 1998 S90 had.
I understand the computer also has to be reprogrammed as well as both front door panels replaced to fit the door speakers for the 8xx stereo. I wanted my car upgraded to the 9 channel 8xx stereo almost from the moment I drove her off the lot, as I didn't get to order her as my 02 was totalled so I took the highest optioned car available thinking the stereo would be a easy upgrade. Then I visited the service department and got the bad news. So if you are successful please give all the details of how you did it.
