V70 1999 ETS Failure

It finally happened to our V70. Wife calls and asks me to come and get her, the engine just stopped on a busy road with cars passing on the right and left. A very dangerous situation. The ETS light and check engine light came on. Finally a do gooder stopped and helped her get the car off the road. About the time I got there he had looked under the hood fiddled with a couple of wires and the wife got the car started again and drove home OK. The ETS and CHECK ENGINE lights were still on. The next day I drove the car with the lights still on, it ran OK. Now both lights have gone off.

I am aware of the Volvo recall for the ETS replacement and plan to call soon for an appointment. It will be interesting to see if they honor the extended waranty for the ETS. I'll let you know.

Anyone else experience similar behavior from their car?

Write the highway safety Admin. while this is still fresh on your mind. Yes, Volvo will honor this. Complain that she could have been killed.

Update. I took the V70 to the Volvo dealership (this dealership has been easy to work with and they have been upfront with me) and they installed the March 2006 computer upgrade. I expected this as I'm sure Volvo has issued specific instructions about what service they are to provide The car starts fine, does not have the idle variations and does have better response accelerating. So now I wait to see if it fails again,(hopefully on a quiet residential street (not on the interstate) at which point I will insist on having the ETM replaced per the 200000 mile extended warranty.

I found it interesting that a response on the forum stated that the installation of the software will prevent a fault code for the ETM if it fails. Volvo won't replace the ETM if there is no code. Go figure

Has anyone around had a dealership replace the ETM under the extended warranty?
