850-Anyone have this OE radio problem?

For the past few weeks the reception on my radio frequently decides to be terrible! Normally the reception is excellent allowing me to pick up stations from NY and MA (live in CT) although now most stations have a layer of static that goes away after awhile then comes back. I have noticed it gets to static when I hit a pothole but has happened too infrequently to be the cause. I'm gonna look into the antenna connections in the hatch and swap the booster. All else fails gonna pull a antenna mast and switch off a 850/v70 sedan and bolt it on the fender might even look cool

Anyway anyone else got this annoying fault? My 99' V40 did the same thing but hitting the dash would fix it

Pop the stereo out and check the antenna wire hasn't walked out? It's Just a friction fit.

Or oxidized. Plug and unplug a few times to wipe the contacts.

I have it too. I found it is in the radio, resoldered the antenna didn't fix it. On mine it's in the PLL tuning section. Sometimes when you change channels, using the push buttons, and go above 94MHz all I get is static. Then if I change channels, using the push buttons, down to 1 or 2 and work up to 6 the radio works, but from 1 straight to 6 gets me static. The lower buttons always work, but tapping on the circuit board with a plastic screwdriver still makes a static noise. I resoldered about 100 joints on the PCB, it got better, but didn't fix it. Either I need to resolder all of them or its got a mechanical filter going bad.

Number 2 son, who uses the car only listens to MP3s, but I replaced that antenna and I'd like to get the radio working all the time.

When PnP up here has a sale, the Volvo radios with single CD sell for about $10-15 CDN. Not worth fixing unless issue is obvious or you like a challenge.
