2007 XC90 - Fast wiper setting not working

Post by mroddis »

Hi all,
First post.

My wife's 2007 XC90 has a new problem - the wipers on the fastest setting no longer work. The wipers work fine all the way through the intermittent setting as well as on the normal setting, but as soon as she changes to 'fast' mode, the wipers just stop where they are. Wondering if this could be a fuse issue, or a more challenging (and $$) issue, i.e. with the CEM?

Any help would be appreciated!

(and if anyone knows how to prevent the driver's side dash fuse door from continually falling off when the door is opened, you'd score me some points....)

Matthew.

Caveat: I am new to the XC90 and have never had this problem on any other car.

Here are two long shots for you. Better than nothing until someone that knows about this stuff better than you and I chimes in.
1.) Is the battery charged full. I have read where electrical issues / gremlins sometimes show up with a weak battery.
2.) With the wipers on the normal (or delay) setting; you need to be under the dash in the foot area from below... do you hear a wiper relay? IF there is a wiper relay it may be malfunctioning... merely unplug that wiper relay and replace with a new one. Unplug and re-plug with car off and key out.

***Relay and battery fix are the cheap repairs.***

More expensive possibilities are the connection at the steering column stalk lever or the wiper motor. If I was a betting may I'd go with #2 above.

Good luck!
