Electronic Climate Control problem

Post by bgp »

Hello!

I have a 1997 850 T-5 wagon. Runs great, but a couple of days ago when I started it up the REC and A/C lights began to blink.
It blinks about 17 to 18 times, then it stops. I have read about this problem and some of what can cause it.

I drove it yesterday to narrow things down. I drove it for about 15 miles in stop and go traffic, outside weather temperature was 62 degrees . My blower fans runs great,it doesn't overheat the temp needle stayed in the middle. Heat work fine,so does the air conditioning. No smells either.

I'm a Volvo newb,so I need all the suggestions that I can get,LOL!!!

Thanks again.

That blinking just tells you there are codes stored in the ECC control unit fault memory. You need a decent 'upscale' reader or Volvo software VIDA DICE for the 1997 model to read these out, then you will know its pain.

It could be something not worth worrying about, like a motor is slightly out of synch or the like, If your AC is working fine, its probably a damper or blend door error of some kind,

I just posted not too long ago on how to retrieve codes from the ECC system with a DIY tool. There's also other threads on the topic. Once you retrieve the codes, we should be able to help you out.

Vida Dice does not work for 98 and older. Need to look for the correct OBD2 cable (I believe it is a VAG-com cable) and vol-fcr software. AJKeeper has a great how-to without the need for anything fancy.

I posted a short write up a while back on how to read the ECC codes...

Building a reader and getting it to work it pretty fun, and once you get the codes then we can help figure out what needs fixing.
