s60 vs s80 and best years used

Post by 850TurboTurtle »

I'm looking to get a $2000 second vehicle, and I'm looking at 99-2002 era used volvo sedans. In that range, what would be the most reliable volvo sedan, statistically? What engines or trannies to avoid?

Here in the Seattle area you can find a few good looking vehicles from that era every month.

Thanks for the advice.

This is not the forum for 99-02 cars, but my point of view is that $2000 for a 2001-2002 S60 is perhaps the worst purchase as the 2001-2002 had widespread transmission and throttle body issue very expensive if impossible to fix. Note that there may be that had these things fixed. I would also look inside the engine bay where the strut is mounted, I have seen a few of 2001-2002 at the scrap yard with rust-cracked chassis at this area and unusable. As for the S80 I would guess it is a big gambling, the S80 is quite more expensive to run than a S60 and more problematic, but chances are to find one that was greatly repaired by a first or second owner and could keep running for another 2-3 years without much trouble. But it's a very wild luck to find one.

Sorry for choosing the wrong forum. I'll see how to remove this and repost. Thanks.
