Extender Right Outer Tie Rod for 1999 XC90

Recently my car was hit on the right side. My dad is my mechanic and has brought the car back to life, but he is stumped on some final alignment issues. Basically, he needs a right outer tie rod that is 3/4" longer than stock. Does anyone have any experience with this repair? He has been asking all of his buddies, but the ideas are mixed. To the best of his knowledge, XC90 outer tie rods are all the same throughout the different years of this car's production. He is hoping to have someone do a weld to extend it, but is worried about the longevity of it. Worst case scenario, he will go to a parts warehouse to find another tie rod that is longer but maintains all the same angles....but this is a daunting task.

Suggestions? Really hoping to salvage this car without having to worry about the tire wear that this alignment issue will cause.

Just to clarify, do you have a 99 XC90? I'm surprised as they didn't sell them in NA until 2003. Do you have an AWD V70XC by any chance? Why on earth do you need a longer tie rod? If the standard one doesn't work there is something seriously wrong with the car or your dad has made an error somewhere. Have you used Volvo or aftermarket parts?

something is not right here- either the model# or your rack got bent or the inner tie rod broke- do a part search by Vin
