Hi All,
Looking at a 2010 Volvo S80 FWD 3.2 with about 120k miles. Any known issues or things I should be looking for? Plan on taking it to a certified Volvo mechanic to give the once over before buying.
Thanks,
Thomas

Check wiring harness to make sure no electrical issues are occurring. You should also check the exhaust and trip computer for has mileage and etc.

Bunch of little stuff wears out after 100-120k ask me how i know. Bought 2008 s80 3.2L for my daughter @ 100k. Things I Replaced So far: Put irridium plugs in as soon as i got it, 20k later i started blowing coils, gap on plugs had eroded to about an eighth of an inch, went to old school champions gapped @ .028 and no more probs with blown coils. Next was serpentine belt drive pulley. I thought it was tensioner or the r.e.a.d. Assembly. I took belt off and started her she was quiet, so i was relieved it wasn’t the read drive (might as well get a new engine). Put belt kit on with new idler and tensioner, still noise. Finally researched it and that bottom pulley is a Clutched pulley, with internal ball bearings, new one on me, and you need to borrow tool from oreilys to pull it. The alternator is driven the same way, i haven’t needed to replace yet. Thermostat and short hose from thermostat bypass to engine block, make sure you get the oring for block end, plastic nipple, use a lil “right stuff” on oring too. Electric fan, not cheap and there are variants, get the right one. Lol. Fuel pressure regulator will throw a code, you will need a short torx bit and a six point box end ignition wrench to hold the bit, a little paper or tape will hold it secure in wrench while you turn screw out, a few degrees at a time, as not much room. Pcv valve is integral to a plastic, sort of valve cover looking assembly, if you hear a hissing sound check it out. Passenger side engine strut and mount another $200 for volvo parts. Driver side view mirror glass fell off (anyone know where i can buy just the glass?) lol. Did brakes all around today, no warning scraper on pads so inspect. It need struts, and it just started pulling to the right, not sure why, components look ok. I would factor a grand for parts if none of this stuff was done yet, at 100-120k. I got a clean one with sunroof navigation, etc. for 4500, and i hope not too much else goes for about another 100k, if so it won’t be a bad deal. They are safe cars, and that is why i bought it for my daughter. The 2008 Honda CRV i got for my son has only needed a starter. Another Honda or a toyota will be the next used purchase. I had the 40 series Volvos, and they were great, this S80 is much more refined but 100k mark seems like lots more parts replacement, but if she goes another 100k with little else i’ll be ok with it. Just be prepared for those items.
