Advice on buying a beater 740?

So I have seen this old 740 fairly close to my house and I pass buy it once a week I know for a fact it runs and drives but I am not sure as to how well? Anyways I have become quite interested in leaving a note on the car and seeing if I would be able to purchase it. I was telling one of my good buddies about the find and he seemed quite interested as well, so I thought that it would be a great car for us to have fun and rip around in. This would be a no cares given project and we don't really mind much happening to the car. Just wondering if anyone could tell me things to keep in mind about a project like this? Also i am hoping that insurance will not render us completely broke i have around $1500 saved up right now and probably a little more from my friend i can't imagine the 740 costing more than a $1000 though. I took some pictures of the car and I Shall put them down below thank you and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

People who own old Volvos are usually passionate about them. Most will put a for sale on them if the y are interested, but. A. Note would sort out if there is an opportunity there.

A repurchase inspection answers the " what can be wrong " question much better than speculation,

Why sure, a parent gives a good Volvo to their high school son on steroids, and it becomes a beater.

My 20 y/o turned his 01 XC into a beater. It may simply be an older gentleman or lady. We had one who had a 240 and i paid 550 for it because he wanted a lincoln. Try and ask.
