Power/boost loss issues

Post by EKOEHLER »

I have a 2007 Volvo v50 t5 awd 6 speed with 117,000 miles on it. This started with a slight drop in boost under load, it would cut out around 2800 rpms and feel very sluggish obviously. The boost sensor was changed out for a new bosch sensor, new fuel pressure sensor was installed, new snabb tcv was installed and all vacuum hose to it where upgraded to silicon hoses, and hose connections where checked, still the problem ensued. Now the other day I was driving and she pulled abnormally hard under normal acceleration for a second then engine power cut out hard and my face almost hit the steering wheel, and started shuddering. Under acceleration in higher rpms, 2800+ it will shudder multiple times in a row like im tapping the brake pedal in repetition and will fail to accelerate. Codes p2281 and p2188 where thrown. any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated.

also checked the pcv valve on turbo housing, and tried driving with the maf unplugged to see if diveability got any better, which it did not.

The codes you get relate to a leak from between the MAF and the other piping. Check things out really well! You might have a leak at the intercooler- even a cracked intercooler...something that doesn't open up unless it's flexed under load or otherwise.

Also just did a google search for one of the codes and found this: http://p2281.enginetroublecode.com/volvo-s40
A loose fitting somewhere or an opening in a hose before the manifold would also cause the car to input more gas to accommodate for the surge of more unmetered air and cause the 02 sensor or catalytic converter to register wrong information, so like I said, check that out first- the easy stuff and then it that's not it, it may that you need to really dial in the trouble code for your car with a more specific scan tool, which VIDA with DICE is the very best as these tools are Volvo specific.

If its a problem child, I might be interested in it if you're looking to no longer deal with it.

VIDA codes: ECM-640C ECM-122D ECM-21CD ECM-21AC. I will be taking a closer look at all piping and connections this weekend.

No leaks found, would a faulty o2 sensor cause an issue like this?

Yes, or a MAF too. Do you know anyone with the same car in your area, you could swap out his MAF to your car and see if things change.

Misfire codes. Unmetered air going in somewhere.
