Windshield washer is driving me nuts

Post by Canadian Moose »

I thought I made a post about this already but I can't find it so I am making a new one.

The windshield washer on my 2002 V70 is driving me bonkers. Ever since I had the car the passenger side washer hasn't worked properly. Most of the time I would get little or no stream out of it.

This weekend I decided to fix it.

I pulled all the lines, check valves and pump from my 2001 V70 which works nicely. I narrowed it down to the one way valves and after swapping those out it started working or so I thought. It worked for the last 3 days but got progressively worse and I am now back to where I started. I get small stream from the passenger side which barely reaches the windshield. Driver side works ok but doesn't feel like it sprays as strong as the 2001.

Is there a permanent fix for this or is this a Volvo thing that I gotta live with? Has anyone swapped to a more powerful pump from another car or perhaps got rid of the one way valves?

They work great. You've got junk and dirt in your system which will plug it up. I guess you Wil have to tear out thecreservoir and get it clean...ugly job.

The reservoir looks clean. Whenever I take everything apart and check for blockages there are none.

Edit: Just saw a related thread pop up. I wonder if this valve is what's causing my issue. I didn't touch anything related to the headlights.

I ended up gutting both one way valves and that 3 way valve. Takes a second longer for the fluid to start spraying but don't have to worry about them braking any more.
