This car has had a gremlin that would raise his ugly head once or twice a month since June of last year. Car cranks over fine, then when departing destination turn the key and no cranking. Wait 15 or 20 minutes car would start. Would'nt happen again for about a month. Did the usual such as ignition switch, battery cable and replaced the starter in September. Car was fine till last week and Mr. Gremlin again pops up. The starter I put in was a new Bosch starter. So thinking I got a failed starter I pulled the new starter out. I found a carbon burn spot on the starter igniter connector

. I found the terminal clip would slide on with no resistance. This would cause the solenoid not to engage therefore starter would not fire.

Mileage on car 211K. All "O" timed components have been completed in the last 2 years.

So it was poor conductivity on that connector, due to it being loose? And that fits with the classic high-resistance-when-hot behavior, too.
