Is it worth checking for Volvo specific codes?

Is it worth upgrading from a basic OBDII to something like the iCarSoft Volvo/Saab i906 that can pull volvo specific codes?

I have a VIDA/DICE and it is worth its weight in gold. All the little things you want to see you can see. O2 sensor values - fuel trims, climate control sensing and position, etc. That said, it requires a laptop. I use an old Dell Latitude D630 - they're cheap and almost disposable...

I'd suggest asking them exactly which modules and which codes it can grab. The last thing you want is to buy it and find out it can't do what you want. Most of the sellers on amazon are rather good with such questions.

The Volvo specific codes are the most frustrating and without a diagnostic tool you are just guessing. Guessing on these cars gets expensive fast and, particularly with a '99, VIDA/DICE or an equivalent is pretty much mandatory if you want to do anything without the assistance of a dealer or a shop.
