Looking for new engine for our 1999 S70 T5

Hi all.....so my son and I share this lovely S70 T5.
Mileage over 450,000 Km's (Canada). Blown head gasket, and mechanic says that the engine is warped......and that we should be trying to find a replacement engine. I have tried all local places plus many online. I have been unsuccessful.
My friend has a 2002 V70 turbo to scrap.
Is there any way we could use the engine from hers? Thank you for any help.

I don't know all the details, but a friend of mine used a 2007 S60 turbo engine in his 98 V70 AWD, by using the 98 engine controllers and ECU on the newer engine. He even got it to run with the AWD system. He had never done an engine swap before and still did it. So until someone else chimes in, this should be feasible, but you will need someone who can figure out what is needed from each engine.

I see you are in Ontario-- have you tried Hamilton Motors in Guelph? Suter's in Aurora is a smaller shop, but they might have something too.

I think for a direct swap you'd want a motor from a turbocharged '99 or '00 car. As abscate mentioned, it is worth checking if the bottom end of the existing motor is actually bad, because putting on a reconditioned head will be quite a bit cheaper than swapping out the motor because of the labor costs. You can buy a rebuilt head from Clearwater Heads.

You may want to consider how much $$$ you want to put into a car that has 450K km on it.
