FS 97' Volvo 850, base, 5-speed manual

Post by 850 LPT »

97’ Volvo 850, base, 5-speed manual, black/ charcoal

I’m selling our Volvo 850 which we bought close to a year ago. The intention was to pass this on to our daughter when she has her license, but we decided to change plans. Let me just say that she is better off driving an automatic for now :o . It would be nice if another Volvo enthusiast would take ownership, it’s a great back up / winter car.

Details:
It has 255k miles on the clock and runs/ shifts fine. It was owned by 2 Volvo enthusiasts before me and has been well taken care of by them, I don’t know the history prior to that. More on that below.

All of the common problems have been addressed at some point in its life. The overall condition is decent, but not great. It has quite a view scars in form of dings and scratches, and the clear coat is showing it’s age. No peeling though. Suspension feels tight with no rattles. Recent new clutch, new exhaust, rebuilt head by Clearwater Heads, recent new windshield. The evaporator has been replaced and the A/C is ice cold. Heater core also replaced. Dashboard sits tight, no rattles. Pretty much everything works, even the headlight wipers. The PO replaced the motors for them. No codes, at the moment anyways. Remarkably, there are NO leaks anywhere, the engine and transmission are dry. Since the car is formerly from the mid atlantic region, it has NO rust.

The interior is in very nice/ clean condition. The seats are from a lower mileage car and look like new. It has a new headliner and steering wheel as well.

It comes with a really nice set of Persus wheels. Three of them have only very minor curb rash and no corrosion. The forth one is slightly worse and has a few minor specs of corrosion. The tires are almost new General Gmax AS-03 in 205/50/16 with 9/32” tread remaining.

Things that need to be addressed:
The brakes are at the end of their life and in need of replacement soon. I already have the front brakes and these are included in the sale. They are Brembo discs and Akebono pads. Depending on the responses I may still install them if I can find the time.
The parking brake pulls only on the passenger side and it’s rather weak.

Asking price for the car is $1600

I also have a set of Bridgestone Blizzak WS-70 snow tires mounted on Volvo steelies if anybody wants them. They have about 1/4" of tread on them. These can be bought for an additional $250.

How much if the trunk is filled up with wood?

This is a nice looking, well-kept car and a good deal. GLWS.

Real beautiful car there. I think I saw it the other day (I'm in NYC) and was planning on "reading the engine." The P80s for sale around here are absolutely nuts sometimes. I dream of finding a "steal" but so far no luck!

The car really shows a connoisseur's touch and the sort of attentiveness to detail you'd come to expect from an MVSer. That new throttle cable is about the closest you're going to get to having a turbo in one of these N/As! :)

I really hope it goes to the right person/family!

Thank you sir, much appreciated. But the previous owner (s) does deserve some credit as well, it was well taken care of when I took ownership.

It's the high miles. A lot of people shy away from that I think.

My old NA had over 290k, no issues. If you were closer to me I would buy this in a second!
