Volvo V70 SE Sport - 2008 - Dim Module

Post by Jer005 »

Hi to everyone on the forum. I have previously enjoyed a Volvo 850 petrol estate run to 200k miles, a V40 T4 which was great fun and an S80 which was luxury but the engine before the D5 and a terrible steering lock :(

Just returned from Loughborough with a V70 Sport SE D5 with 71,000 miles and FSH (but not all Volvo). Car ran great engine and gearbox great and AC just regassed so lovely climate control and sound system :)

I had noted that the two 18" alloys wheels had a fair amount of kerb damage and plan to send the full set to a great company in Swindon - platinumalloys to get them properly refurbished. That leaves one niggle the driver information system does not work. I have speedo, tacho, temp, fuel guage and warning lights (on start up) but the driver information says there is one message and if I press READ it will not do that (does not display the message). Turn the menu wheel and mostly blank display. I have twice seen the 'miles to empty display' for a short while.

Did a lot of googling lat night and learnt about the faulty DIM board on 2001-2003 V70/S60 how people have repaired it by resoldering or using a hot air gun, or removing it for a rebuild at a specialist. I have written off to a couple of those companies to see if they can fix the DIM on the V70/2008 because it seems I have a similar problem. However, I cannot see any other particular forum messages regarding such fault being common post 2003.

Am I on the right track here? Has anyone with a 2008 onwards Volvo V70 D5 had this issue? If so what was your fix?

Any helpful feedback welcome. I was so excited to be back with Volvo and the car does fit our family needs but this is currently frustrating me.

Regards

Jer

I have exactly the same problem. 2008 D5, the rotating wheel on the indicator stalk did work when I first bought it (just over a year ago) and I got the MPG and all that, but it stopped working at some point and hasn't worked since. Didn't bother me at first but it's a bit annoying.

Have been told this would be a new indicator stalk, but given that it just stopped one day rather than deteriorated (which seems to be the case with older versions) I'm not convinced.

For what it's worth, I've also got a sat nav that doesn't remember settings and a passenger door that wont unlock with the rest of the central locking (only after self locking from forward movement). I'm hoping that all these are software glitches that can be easily rectified with an update, although my last trip to a Volvo dealer they charged me £70 to tell me this list of problems was each a new part, over £2k. Mind you, that included a new radio due to the no reception on AM issue.

I too was excited about the whole new car thing (new to me anyway) but these little niggles are annoying and sour the experience, even if mechanically and practically the car is sound.

Hoping someone has a solution!

Yes, there is same issue for your cluster like for 2002-2003 DIMs unfortunately, but it's so rare problem for it.

Acob, in your case most likely there are another issues, but I am sure - not need to replace all modules. Dealer just want to make money. In your case need to go to some specialists, who know what need to do. Unfortunately, we do not have some friendly shops in your area we could recommend. (( If you find somebody who work with Volvo cars, we can start to cooperate with them and help online if need.
