So I have a 2005 S80 2.5T AWD. The question I have is that my all-wheel-drive isn't.
This winter, I noticed a couple of times that my car was slipping. When I was on icy snow, the front wheels would spin, the traction control light would flash, but the rear wheels would never engage. For instance, going up a driveway, the front wheels would lose traction and spin and with an observer watching, the rear wheels would never engage and help the car move.
What would cause the all wheel drive system to not work? More importantly, I find it bizarre that there is no code stored for this issue. Where do you even begin to look? Bevel gear? Transfer case?
Thanks.

You may want to Google up about 'volvo awd problem'. Look for spline or collar gear damage. Very common issue. Some forums offer tips for this costly repair.
