Misfire Count available in Torque, or only in VIDA DICE?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Misfire Count available in Torque, or only in VIDA DICE?

Post by DanSC »

Hello, 2001 S80 2.9 non-turbo here.

Yesterday I inspected my spark plugs, and have new plugs on order. When I reassembled the engine, it started misfiring on multiple cylinders, but only throwing the P0300 - multiple or random misfire code. From pulling the coil packs with the engine running, I found that cylinders 1, 4, and 5 are not firing. Furthermore, I heard no spark when I pulled those three coils.

Before I start swapping coils around, I'd like to use the Torque app to count misfires, as I am not receiving any cylinder-specific misfire codes. I have the list of ECM codes, but don't know the hex code and formula to add a custom PID in Torque.

Has anyone done this, or is it only possible in VIDA? Maybe this is my reason to finally buy a VIDA unit.

One aside update on this: I found one new coil pack for sale locally. By swapping coils, I found I now had four bad coils (!). Three more are on order.

My code reader (icarsoft i906) does give cylinder-specific misfire codes, so no need for vida/dice for this one.
What I wonder about in your situation why you would suddenly have 3 bad coils all at once. My understanding was they fail one at a time?

Cees, that's what I thought too, but I replaced all four, and now all cylinders are firing strong.

I'll look into icarsoft i906, thank you.
